By planning for your end of life in advance you can design and specify the type of service you’d like, so that your friends and family celebrate you as you wish.  And by letting your loved ones know how you'd like your funeral or memorial service to be, they'll have less difficult and complicated decisions to make during an emotional time and you will have peace of mind.

What you'd like...

Funeral, memorial, or celebration.

Where you'd like…

At church, home, reception hall, funeral home, outside in the garden, on a hilltop, a boat, the beach, or at your favorite venue.  Your send-off could be a memorial walk, bike ride, cookout, or a dinner party.

When you'd like…

With cremation, you can take as much time as you like to plan a memorial service or ceremony.  It could be in a month, a few months, or you could wait for the summer or other time that is special or significant to you.

How you'd like…

It could be led by a minister, a friend, or a family member.  It’s entirely up to you!

If you choose cremation, your ashes can be scattered or buried as part of the ceremony or they can be kept at home or transported abroad.

​

You may want to donate your body for science or medical advancement, or if you want to help others, but still want your family to bury or cremate your body, there is the option to donate your organs.

​

The possibilities are limitless!

What's most important is for "you" to decide, then communicate your wishes to your family and close friends.  That way, those closest to you will be clear about what you want, and you will have peace of mind knowing that your wishes are understood.

End of Life Doula services are customized to fit your unique needs.

 

Basic services may include assisting clients with developing wishes for care, working through resolutions, story sharing, life reflections, legacy projects and vigil planning.

 

Help gather relevant information and connect clients to beneficial resources.

Provide support to the caregiver through home visits, and providing support before and during a funeral.

 

Other services may include providing doula services while a loved one is actively dying.

 

Contemplating and creating wishes for one's end of life care is a valued process for clients, their families, and medical teams.

No matter what your age or current state of health is, it's never too soon to consider your legacy and how you want to be remembered.

In our lives we plan for many things... work, vacations, what to have for dinner, college, retirement, the birth of our child, and our first home.  However rarely, do we plan for our death. 

​

Kletos encourages you to think deeply and talk freely about death.  Most important, to be actively involved in your end of life planning and to plan well in advance.

 

We can assist you in developing a legacy plan and creating projects to document your life and all that's important.

 

Legacy projects serve as an important touch for surviving loved ones, providing sources of inspiration and comfort.

 

Examples of legacy projects include: recording family stories and oral histories, creating memory books, ethical wills, "When I Die" files and letters for your surviving loved ones, or curating a collection of family recipes, or original poetry.

Keep your family tree alive and connected for future generations by sharing details and stories about you and other deceased family members.

A "vigil" takes place when a person is dying, and is surrounded by loved ones and an attending End of Life Doula at their bedside.  Usually, vigil plans are developed weeks in advance through conversations with the client and their family to determine the environment, participants, rituals, and process they wish to have.

 

Is there particular music you want to be playing or performed?  Do you prefer silence?  Do you want to be surrounded by your favorite flowers, photos of loved ones, candles, or other treasured objects?  Is there a particular room of your home you would rather be in or would you prefer to be outside in the sunshine?

 

All vigil plans are unique and customized to meet the wishes of the person who is dying and their loved ones.  With any vigil, the End of Life Doula's assignment is to assist with the vigil plan and to provide compassionate support and a calming presence for all in attendance.

 

Kletos encourages early consideration of vigil planning, even among people not facing imminent death.  Planning in advance allows for deeper reflection and conversations with loved ones to take place.

 

Vigil plans may always be revisited and revised throughout one's life.

Whatever your faith or beliefs, Kletos offers Minister-on-Call services to meet your spiritual and ceremonial needs.
